Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle Results

This females only event is synonymous with one multiple winner. That is Quevega, who triumphed in six consecutive editions of the race registered as the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle from 2019 to 2014. After its inaugural running in 2008 towards the end of the Festival, this is now a staple of the Cheltenham day 1 results.

The race is also famous for a mare who didn’t win it when Annie Power fell while in command at the last hurdle in 2015. Despite its relatively short history, other notable winners include Apple’s Jade and Honeysuckle.

Champion Hurdle Results

The biggest of all Cheltenham results on the opening day now. Past winners are hurdling greats. From Brown Jack, who won the second edition in 1928, through Insurance in the early 1930s to National Spirit in the late 1940s, Hatton’s Grace and Sir Ken in the 1950s and Persian War in the late 1960s.

Legends continue into a real golden age of Cheltenham favourites and the Champion Hurdle in the 1970s/80s. This era saw Bula, Comedy Of Errors, Night Nurse, Monksfield, Sea Pigeon, Dawn Run and See You Then all triumph. Istabraq, Hardy Eustace, Hurricane Fly and Buveur D’Air are all modern Champion Hurdle greats too.

Fred Winter Results (Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle)

We’re still waiting for the Fred Winter for four-year-olds to produce a really big name. The truth is when considering Cheltenham racing results today that the winner is often a horse ready to do the business and be at their peak on that day.

Inaugurated in 2005, the year following the legendary trainer’s death, it was a new race for the expanded four-day Festival. It is the first of two four-year-olds only Premier Handicaps held at Cheltenham with the other restricted to fillies at the April Meeting.

National Hunt Chase Result

The longest distance race of the big meeting at Cheltenham actually predates the Festival to 1860. This track became its permanent home in 1911 and it’s all about stamina. Affectionately referred to as the four-miler, the race distance changed to three and three quarter miles in 2020.

Further alterations came in for 2025 when the National Hunt Chase became a handicap open to professional jockeys, as well as amateur riders. Tiger Roll is the most famous horse to feature among the winners in Cheltenham results here.

Cheltenham Day 2 Results – Style Wednesday

Until recent years Ladies Day, Style Wednesday isn’t just about Festival fashion. Far from it, in fact. There is plenty of variety in the type of races and results from Cheltenham today. Two-miler chasers take centre stage in the Queen Mother Champion Chase that headlines the card.

That’s not all, though, as three other Grade 1s for novice hurdlers, staying novice chasers and bumper Cheltenham horses keep the quality high. The handicaps aren’t too shabby either with the historic Grand Annual Chase, Cross Country action and Coral Cup over hurdles.

Turners Novices’ Hurdle Result (Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle)

Established in 1971 as the Aldsworth Hurdle, the race registered as the Baring Bingham after one of the initial Festival organisers, has an intermediate trip. Sponsored titles like the Royal & Sun Alliance Hurdle, Neptune Novices’ Hurdle and Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle all feature in the events’s history.

Past winners from previous Cheltenham results here include Willie Wumpkins, Danoli, Istabraq, Hardy Eustace and Faugheen. As that roll of honour shows, some horses step up in trip in future while others drop back in distance.

Cross Country Chase Cheltenham Results (Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase)

Initially a handicap and reverting back to that again in 2025, the Cross Country race at the Festival developed into a good Grand National trial when a conditions contest. Cause Of Causes, Tiger Roll and Delta Work all used this event as prep for Aintree and ran into the frame.

The Cheltenham races results today must consider whether the Cross Country race or the world’s most famous steeplechase is the prime target for horses. Both really test equine stamina but, in years where the Festival and Aintree are just three weeks apart, there’s a tight turnaround.

Cheltenham Day 3 Results – St Patrick’s Thursday

Even if the penultimate day of the Cheltenham Festival doesn’t always coincide with St Patrick’s Day, it still carries the name. This reflects the many racegoers coming over from Ireland to watch the meeting.

Headlining the card are two Grade 1 races in the Ryanair Chase and Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle. Note that these races have two major Irish brands sponsoring them. Cheltenham live results on St Patrick’s Thursday also include lots of handicaps.

Among these and brand new for 2025 is the Jack Richards Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase. This joins more established events on the Cheltenham schedule likes the Pertemps Final over hurdles, and the Festival Plate and Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup over fences.

Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Result

Dawn Run is the only horse of either gender to win both the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. It therefore made sense to have a race named after her at the Cheltenham Festival. The Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle had its inaugural running in 2016.

While that is a much shorter history than most other Cheltenham results at the Festival, Willie Mullins won the first five editions of the race. His successful mares include Limini and Laurina, but also a big-price shock with Eglantine Du Seuil.

Jack Richards Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase Result

There used to be a Grade 1 novice chase honouring five-time Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Golden Miller on this card. When Arkle and Broadway field sizes dropped, however, this race over an intermediate trip between them had to go.

From 2025, a Grade 2 novices’ limited handicap chase replaces this. Today’s Cheltenham results include this moving forward, so check back here on St Patrick’s Thursday to see who finished where in the race.

Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle Results

Initially the Coral Golden Hurdle Final after its introduction to the Festival in 1974, this staying handicap hurdle race has a series of qualifiers run all over the British Isles. Should a horse win a Pertemps Qualifier and they have a sufficiently high official BHA rating, they receive an automatic berth in the Pertemps Final.

Those placed in qualifiers also get spots in the race. Willie Wumpkins hit a hat-trick early on in Pertemps Final history, but Forgive ‘n’ Forget is perhaps the most famous winner. Buena Vista and Sire Du Berlais are others with multiple victories when looking over past Cheltenham results here.

Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle Result

The modern incarnation of the Stayers’ Hurdle arrived at the Festival in 1972. Prior to that, forerunners of the race including the Spa Hurdle and a selling hurdle had really chequered histories. Thanks to horses like Brown Lad, Crimson Embers and Galmoy, this finally helped establish a proper staying hurdle race during the meeting.

In more recent times, and with the race one of the key Cheltenham day 3 results since 1993, Baracouda, Inglis Drever and Big Buck’s also enjoyed multiple Stayers’ Hurdle successes. Don’t be fooled. This division has more to it than failed chasers with some real champions on its roll of honour.

TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase Result

Inaugurated in 1951 as the Mildmay of Flete Handicap Chase when there was a dead heat and the race switched to Cheltenham’s April Meeting, this Premier Handicap over two-and-a-half miles gets its name from an amateur jockey. Run at the Festival from 1952 onwards, only two horses have won the race twice: The Tsarevich and Elfast.

Cheltenham Day 4 Results – Gold Cup Day

Last but not least, we come to Cheltenham Gold Cup day. The fourth and final day of the Festival also has two other Grade 1 events on the card with the Triumph Hurdle for four-year-olds and Albert Bartlett for staying hurdlers.

Other Cheltenham results on day four include the County Hurdle, a Premier Handicap over an extended two miles. There are also races for hunter chasers and conditional jockeys over hurdles. The Mares’ Chase has Grade 2 status and is one of the newest events at the Festival.

JCB Triumph Hurdle Results

Cheltenham Gold Cup Results

For 100 years now, the Cheltenham Gold Cup has been the blue riband of steeplechasing. This is the centrepiece race of the entire Festival. Most of the great staying chasers have won it including Easter Hero, Golden Miller, Cottage Rake and Arkle.

A look at the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting often has a mix of past heroes and new contenders. For a long periods, multiple winners became rare. That has all changed in recent years, though.

After Arkle’s hat-trick and L’Escargot landing back-to-back victories, Cheltenham Gold Cup results had different winners each year right up until Best Mate and his famous treble in the early 2000s. Kauto Star won, lost and then recaptured the crown before the end of that decade.

Al Boum Photo and Galopin Des Champs hold the distinction of consecutive Gold Cup successes. Their heroics prove it is possible to launch repeat bids at the blue riband.
